Hillcrest Homestead

Hillcrest Homestead

C$7.00Price

Painting old homesteads is a favorite subject matter of mine. This house was built by a man named Frisken who came over from England around the turn of the 20th century. He called the homestead Hillcrest, a rather fancy name for a homestead but possibly named after a favourite place in his native country. He raised a family of 5 here. The painting does not show the large two story addition at the rear. Most homesteads were a fair distance from one another; life was difficult both physically and emotionally. For these reasons, the people made the most of their social gatherings and helped neighbours when needed.
