These three canoes were at a wharf at McGillivray Lake in late autumn, not yet taken out of the water before winter. The lake is situated between the ski resort of Sun Peaks in BC. and the Trans Canada Highway, a long downhill drive away. It sits at an elevation of 4,300 feet. The contrast between the dark distant tree line, the brilliant reflection of cloud and sky in the lake water with the colors and lines of the canoes was the impetus for this small painting. The fact that winter was approaching meant the end of another summer on the lake canoeing, fishing, and hiking its perimeter, evoking a feeling of sadness.
